A Bit About Black Zirconium:

Black Zirconium is an attractive and strong alternative to traditional wedding bands.  Black Zirconium is a tough, corrosion free metal and will not wear or fade.  The metal Zirconium is a grayish white shiny metal which resembles Titanium in looks, still heavier and resembling more precious metals in its weight and feel.  When heat is applied a black oxidized ceramic-like coating forms and is scratch resistant and durable.  Black Zirconium rings are black all the way through.  In the rate instance the ring does scratch or chip, more black material will show underneath.  Zirconium is a great choice for people with base metal allergies.

Titanium Rings:

The natural color of titanium is gray and resembles stainless steel. Titanium is recognized for its high strength-to-weight ratio. Without sacrificing strength and durability, titanium is 45% lighter than gold. Stronger than steel, titanium can take a beating against everyday wear and tear.

Titanium is mostly marketed as being scratch-resistant, however with normal wear small scratches and scuffs do appear. Although titanium is very hard and durable, some abrasive materials such as rocks or sand can scratch the surface. However, these scratches are not permanent. The good news is that any local jeweler in your area can polish off those scratches easily. With a little polishing, titanium shines like new again.

Unlike many popular metals, titanium is an inert metal and is not chemically active. This prevents titanium from oxidizing or tarnishing over time. Because of its inertness, titanium is completely hypoallergenic and is a perfect choice for people with metal allergies.

Titanium rings are constructed from solid bars of titanium, which results in a perfectly round, seamless ring. Due to the hardness and strength of titanium, it is more difficult to cut and shape than other popular metals. Because of its unique nature, it is almost impossible to re-size a titanium ring.

The Last Minute Groom

It amuses me the difference between ladies and gents. We often get calls for last-minute rings. And today I got two one from a woman who said “I know it is short notice but I am getting married in two months …..” and the other from a man who said, “I didn’t get my ring yet and I’m getting married this Saturday can you help me?.” Lucky for the lady that is plenty of time to get a ring our not so lucky gent is going to have a little pre-wedding stress.

Most of the wedding rings we sell are custom handmade to order and can take anywhere from two to four weeks. I find it odd that many couples (not all) but quite a few don’t leave that much time to select wedding rings. I’ve done a little research and most of the Todo List suggests selecting your rings 4 to 6 months before the wedding and some suggest 12 months or more before the wedding.

Do you really need that much time? Probably not but you are going to be wearing this ring for the rest of your life and it should be something you really love.

In closing don’t feel bad for our groom we do keep a fair amount of rings in stock just for this reason. We had four rings in stock in his size and he picked out a very nice Celtic Knot Wedding ring.  He’s all set he said…
