Belleek Old Schoolhouse 25th Edition Annual Bell Ornament 2012

The Annual Bell Ornament is based on one of the first purpose build primary schools build in Ireland.

Ballyverdagh National School was opened in 1836 and was the seventh school in Ireland to get assistance after the beginning of the National School System in 1831.

Originally sited in the townland of Ballyverdagh, near Ballycastle in Co Antrim, it remained as a school until 1935. Until 1889, the upper floor was the boy's classroom and the ground floor was the girls classroom.  Afterward both were taught in the upper floor.

The School building was removed stone by stone and is now one of the historic buildings forming part of the Ulser Folk and Transport Museum in Cultra, Co Down.
